College Credit Card Debt

Credit card debt affects a lot of us in life, including college students. In fact, it generally hits college students the hardest because they are newer to the credit card game and they will most likely spending above their head since they treat it like a piece of plastic. Debt can be dangerous and many people don’t understand the circumstances until they fall into the trap and rather than prevent it, they want to know how to get out of it when they fall into it.

When trying to avoid debt as a student, it’s fairly simple and yes, credit cards aren’t built for everyone and you’ll know if that card is built for you. If you start to overspend right away and you can’t pay your bill off on time, you may want to just resort to a prepaid card or debit card so that you can’t spend over your head.

There are a few simple steps that you can take when it comes to debt and preventing it and it’s so easy to prevent it. My golden rules are treating it like money, watch what you spend and never buy what you can’t afford. Following these simple steps will likely lead you down the road of success rather than the road of debt. You’re probably reading these rules and thinking “wow, that’s it?” I know it sounds easy but so many people can’t even follow these rules alone.

Write down these golden rules and stick it next to your credit card. That way, when you’re ready to use it, you ask yourself those questions. If you feel comfortable with it, great, if not, like I said, I would recommend you get a debit or prepaid card.
