Cancelling a credit card I’ve never used- How do I do it?

October 26th, 2009 | by admin |

Ok, so I’m a college student, I got roped into filling out a credit card app. to get something free. I did and got my card while I was on vaction about 2 weeks ago. It’s a CitimtvU card, student card basically. Well, I don’t want the card.

I have been building credit since my senior year of high school, I have 3 other credit cards, of which I really only use one now. I always have paid off my bills as soon as I’ve got them. I’ve read something about watching when you cancel because if you are using a bunch of your credit limit total and you cancel a card worth 1/3 of your total limit, it hurts you. I was wondering if that’s true. For me I have $700 due for one of my cards, but my credit limit is about $10,000 with just the 3 active cards.

Basically my question is, how can I get rid of this card, I haven’t used it, haven’t accessed the website or anything?

Thanks for any help!

there’s a customer assistance phone # on the letter that came with the card, call that # and talk to the customer representative who answers your call to cancel your card / account.
