Attempt to purchase over Credit card limit? Will it affect my Credit score?
August 27th, 2009 | by admin |I just got approved for a student Visa card yesterday. I attempted to purchase an item (Playstation 3, $500) today that turned out to be a bit over my temporary credit limit. The issuing bank for my card wouldn’t authorize the charge so the online retailer informed me that I had to use a different card because the student card was denied.
Will this affect my Credit Score even though I didn’t actually complete the transaction, but just made an attempt and was denied since it was over my temporary credit limit?
Thanks in advance.

No. Don’t worry about it. But don’t use your card for a playstation??? I guess it’s OK if you have money to pay for it on time. (The reason I said that is you are worried if your credit will be affected by the situation, but you are not worried about the payment – if you happened to get approved – but can’t pay on time, your credit will be messed up.) Why didn’t you put the rest on your debit card – and charge the other in your credit card.? Then you go home with the playstation.

Nope! Things that affect your credit that are related to your credit card are: limit issued, limit used, average balance, and whether your payments are on time or early. What you buy or whether or not the purchased is approved has no direct bearing.
